There are some things we can only see once the lights go out.
On a hot and wonderfully buggy July night, Faye meets Wally, a lightning bug whose tiny lantern is being swallowed by the glow of the streetlights. He is shining exactly as he was made to shine, but in a world that has become too bright and too noisy, no one seems able to notice. Then the thunder rolls. The sky cracks open, the rain comes drumming down, and one lightning strike sends the whole park into darkness. What first feels sudden and frightening becomes something else entirely: a clearing. Beneath the soft silver light of the Thunder Moon, Wally’s glow can finally be seen. And in the distance, another small light answers back.
Under the Thunder Moon is a story about love, but it is also about loneliness, light pollution, summer storms, and the unexpected gifts hidden inside disruption. It asks children to notice how the natural world speaks, glows, sings, and finds its way back to itself when we give it enough darkness to do so. Because sometimes the storm is not the end of the magic. Sometimes it is the very thing that reveals it.
